Andreas Berthling
----------
So far, in a brief, slightly-over-one-year period, composer and noise experimentalist Andreas Berthling's young career has been astonishingly prolific. Spanning over a dozen or so albums already, this Swedish newcomer's body of work has made him both well-respected and well-recieved among his peers. Berthling specializes in microscopic music and click and glitch sound experimentation - a genre that's both unsetling and captivating in its minimalist approach to sound fragmentation and association. Working with computer tools and layers of simple loops and samples, Berthling tweaks and toys with sound deconstruction to create ... well, assembled noise; noise that booms and crackles out of the stereo, noise that sputters out in inconsistent rhythm, noise that makes you wonder if your speakers are going through cardiac arrest. Berthling has worked with longtime experimental music guru Kim Cascone and appeared on MIT Press' Computer Music Journal compilation. All this and he's still just a college student at the Art Academy of Trondheim, Norway. // Pittsburgh Weekly, 2001-03
